Research and Practice

研究と実践

The name REAPRA was born from Research and Practice.

We do not believe anyone can know, from the start, the answer to a social issue.

Understand society, hold a question, form a hypothesis. Then act on society and learn from what happens. Use that learning to change how you understand society, the business, and yourself.

Repeating this movement between research and practice is REAPRA’s approach to facing social issues that span generations, and to building new industries.

Why research and practice

Through research and practice, we contribute to the betterment of society by creating industries.

The social issues we face are not easily solved, even over ten, twenty or thirty years.

Society, people, and the environment around a business keep changing. So what is needed is not to find the right answer once, but to keep learning from society and keep updating our understanding and our practice.

Research | understanding society and yourself, deepening the question

Research at REAPRA is not only the analysis of social issues.

What do I feel is wrong? Why does this problem stay with me? What social structure lies behind it?

Starting from the entrepreneur’s own experience and sense of the problem, we deepen our understanding of society, of ourselves, and of the business, and form the questions and hypotheses that lead to the next practice.

Practice | acting on reality, learning from reality

We test questions and hypotheses in the real world: with customers, in the business, in the organisation, in the market.

We learn from what comes back, and sometimes question not only the business but the assumptions we held.

REAPRA invests in entrepreneurs with a long-term view and walks with them through this process of acting on reality and continuing to learn from it.

Moving between Research and Practice

Understand. Hold a question. Practise. Learn from reality. Update your understanding and practise again.

Through this repeated movement, not only the business but the entrepreneur changes, and new businesses and relationships emerge.

Not one business or one product, but many businesses and many players, appearing and connecting. Beyond that, a new industry takes shape.

Repeating research and practice, we build industries that face social issues across generations.

That is Research & Practice at REAPRA.
